Ah, the emotional roller coaster that was this year's Bella Strada. I'd like to tell you the chalk art festival is going on all weekend, but the sudden unexpected summer deluge has washed away many of the pieces, mine in particular. Still here's some evidence that it did happen, and my knot turned out pretty cool.

Tonight was the launch of the 9th annual Downtown Bellingham Children's Art Walk and it rocked. But one of the highlights had to be the collection of knotwork drawings by a class of 5th graders I gave a couple of lessons to. Not only were they able to pick up a kinda tricky method of knot illustration in half the instruction time that my adult students get, but they ran with it. The personalized variations are awesome. Is it pure coincidence? a curse of alphabetical names? or some strange magnetism? For the second year in a row- my Whatcom County Allied Arts show entry has been flanked (on the left) by Barbie's nude ass. My poor studio sat quiet, still, collecting dust after the frenetic christmas rush and I finally gather enough motivation to assemble this lovely ornamental flower- to once again be humbled by anatomically correct plastic. I'll get a better picture once I bring it home. But the kiddo always makes for a great photo- and a great laugh.

Well even express shipping deadline has come and gone. Of course there's gonna be a few after christmas arrivals, but I officially can't do a thing about it now. And while I feel wretched to accept that  there will be late gifts, I did the best I could. On to the local gifts now- with some sledding breaks in between. I cannot relay how grateful I am to NOT be traveling this holiday season. My heart goes out to those stuck in airports, train stations and bus terminals this year. Happy Holidays!
